The series is an exploration of motherhood through writing, movement, and visual art, with a strong emphasis on personal reflection and creative collaboration. The topic is rich and paradoxical. Creativity can require uninterrupted time, which is hard to come by as a mother - yet, the experience of motherhood is so deeply creative.
Kat’s undergraduate degree is in anthropology, with a focus on birth across cultures and a minor in dance. After university, she was part of a women-led circus in NYC. Performance, writing, and puppet making have been big creative outlets for her.
Group Size & Atmosphere
We anticipate a group of 6-12 mothers, allowing for both intimate sharing and collaborative energy without feeling overwhelming. The goal is to create a supportive, welcoming space where everyone can engage at their own comfort level—whether that means deep diving into the creative process or simply being present and experimenting.
This is more about community than about any finished product. It is the beginning of a broader celebration, a conversation and exploration of creative practice. We are here to create a playful connection with everything that is sacrificed and discovered through the experience of motherhood.
What We Create
Each session will focus on a different theme related to motherhood—some include identity, joy, sacrifice, transformation, and connection. Through guided writing prompts, movement exercises, and hands-on art projects, participants will create:
Personal and collective writings (freewrites, poetry, and short reflections)
Visual art (collage, mixed media, simple sculpture, or textile work)
A collaborative final piece, integrating elements of writing, movement, and visual expression—a shared story of our experiences as mothers
No previous experience is needed, just a willingness to explore and create! Our intention is to facilitate a dedicated creative outlet that acknowledges the complexity of motherhood while offering connection with others. Feel free to reach out with questions. If cost feels like a barrier, please let us know — we're always happy to work with folks around financial limitations.
